Color of Fall Car Show To Rev Up On Sept. 26

by KEVIN HALPERN

Cars of all shapes, sizes, vintages and colors will be on display Saturday, September 26 when the 11th annual Color of Fall Car Show takes place at the Pubic Square in Woodbury.

The yearly event, sponsored by the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce, is one of the community's largest gatherings. The car show is also the major fundraiser of the year for the chamber and one of the ways it tries to attract people to visit Cannon County and its businesses.

"The chamber is always interested in bringing people into town and any time that you have an event like this that will do that, it's going to benefit somebody," Carolyn Motley, chamber director, said.

This year marks the 11th annual for the show. Registration is from 8 a.m. until noon. Entry fee is $20. Judging begins at 9:30 a.m.

There will also be door prizes, music and contests. Major sponsors are NAPA Auto Parts and Woodbury Insurance Agency.

"The car show may not always benefit the same businesses, but really all businesses in the area benefit in some way,"Motley said.

"People go in the restaurants . The car show is an all day thing so usually it starts before eight and usually ends up about 2:30-3:00 by the time the trophies get awarded and during that time people go and eat," Motley said. "A lot of them, the women mostly, will get bored. They'll go around and shop in the stores. We have a lot of antique stores now that have opened up. That's good. That's exactly what we want."

Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Original, Best Modified, Best Street Rod, Best Pro Street and Best Full Size or Mini Truck. Trophies will be awarded to the top 30 1989 or older vehicles and to the Top 10 1990 or older.

Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entrants by the Old Feed Store Antique Mall. The D.J. for the event will be Steve Smith.

"He (Smith) does a great job, and we have three judges out of McMinnville that come in because it is hard for people to judge on a local basis," Motley said.

"There will be cars coming from all over for the show. I'm hoping the weather will be beautiful like it has been lately. We just hope for a big crowd."

In the event of rain, the show will be moved to Oct. 3.
