Classmates from all over Cannon County and beyond gathered Sunday April 30th at Woodbury Church of Christ to celebrate their achievements in the various courses offered through the Institute of Studies and Biblical Education, better known by the acronym, ISBE.

ISBE began as a vision for several and opened its doors in 2016 under the leadership of Co-Directors Dr. Larry Mathis and Stan Hollandsworth. The hard work and dedication of the committee (including Daniel Hayes, Jerry Nash, Shane Nichols, Sharon Shirley, and Janet Bane) can be seen throughout the entire 1st year.

Nearly 250+ students have received instruction since the 1st module of courses was offered back in the Fall of 2016. Of those students, 75+ received certificates for their coursework. It was this amazing achievement that we had the honor to celebrate at the inaugural banquet held this past weekend. Course certificates and the distinguished One Year of Completion Degree were handed out by instructors while family and friends cheered them on.

The Institute of Studies and Biblical Education is a Bible oriented educational service provided to Cannon County as well as adjacent counties. The offered courses are designed to strengthen families, to enhance a deeper Bible knowledge and understanding, to build confidence and courage in discipleship, to promote unity within the church, and to provide a resource for community outreach in Bible and related education.

Men and women, eighteen years of age and older, regardless of church affiliation are welcome and encouraged to take courses that they find of interest.

The courses offered may include but are certainly not limited to, family studies, grief counseling, marriage counseling, church leadership for men and women, Systematic and Biblical Theology and Bible Geography. Specialty courses may be offered based on need and the demand for the requested topic.

Courses are offered in six-week modules (up to seven modules yearly) at the campus of the WCOC with satellite campuses being added with each schedule, based on instructor availability.

To enroll in courses, you will need to fill out an application for each course you are wanting to participate in. These courses may be audited or taken for certification depending on the needs and desires of each student. Also available is a One Year of Completion Degree for any student taking at least one (or more) classes during each of the offered modules per year.

The Benefits of ISBE include academic and practical knowledge; a deeper understanding of the Bible; strengthening families in the church home and community.
