The Auburntown City Council met November 3, 2009, for their regular monthly meeting. The Mayor and all Councilpersons were present including Frank Patrick who was sworn in at the meeting.
The council is once again composed of six Councilpersons, which makes it the maximum number authorized by the City Charter. The Council is composed of Roger Turney, Mayor and Councilpersons: Rita Davis, Beth Hancock, Frank Patrick, Tina Fletcher, Ruby Jo Davenport and Winfred Gaither.
The minutes of last month’s (October) meeting was approved as presented by the City Recorder.
The financial report was given by Rita Davis, Treasurer, which showed a balance of funds in the amount of $44,723.19.
The Mayor reported that the actual construction of the Utility Water Line up Hurricane Creek Rd. should begin in about two weeks.
The City’s Christmas streetlights are being readied for installation and should be ready to turn on sometime around Thanksgiving week.
Chris Blackburn, Fire Chief, gave and update and progress report on what is happening in the Fire Dept. The December Volunteer Fire Department’s monthly Fish and Chicken Fry will not be held this year during the month of December. As the date is so close to Christmas and scarcely attended, the Fire Dept. decided to forego the December Fry this year and give the busy firemen some time off for Christmas.
The Fire Department has five fire fighters currently enrolled in training to be certified as First Responders. The course consists of 10 weekly classes with an exhaustive test of 100 questions at the completion. A passing score of 80 must be made to qualify for certification.
The meeting began at 6:00 P.M and ended at 6:45 P.M.
