CCHS students at Boys and Girls State

By Colonel Jim Stone

The Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279 hosted their Annual Boys and Girls State Honors Dinner and Ceremony on Thursday, September 19, 2013. The Cannon County High School, like other high schools in Tennessee traditionally sent one boy and one girl each year.

American Legion Post 279 was Chartered a little over three years ago, and since then the American Legion Post has sent three boys and three girls.

The Boys State Coordinator at CCHS, Mr. William F. Curtis, asked Col. Jim Stone if the Post could send more than one boy and one girl. Col. Stone said that we would give it our best shot. He got with Charlie Harrell, the Boys State Director for Post 279, who coordinated with State Headquarters and got approval to send three boys and three girls.

The Post sends three boys with the help of three Sponsors from our local businesses and civic organizations. The Post Auxiliary sends three girls with the help of three Sponsors from our local businesses and civic organizations. With the continued help from these Sponsors we can continue to send three boys and three girls.

Cannon County High School, according the Colonel Jim Stone, has some of the most talented and brightest students in the world. Why not send three of each and give these super students this great opportunity to receive some of the best leadership training in the world.
