Regardless the temperature, it's gonna be a hot weekend in Woodbury come Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28.

The heat we're referring to comes from hot cars and professionally prepped barbecue.

Hello! Sounds like the perfect weekend for yours truly.

The weekend is marked by the return of the Colors of Fall Car Show and the Piggin' Around  KCBS sanctioned professional barbecue cook-off.

So, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and go cat go.

The weekend begins Friday with American Legion Post 279 sponsoring the two-day barbecue cook-off at Woodbury's Fairgrounds. 

Friday morning, cookers start setting up for the cook-off while crafters get ready under the Justin Pemberton Area at the Fairgrounds. Concession stands will provide lunch and dinner.

Events begin at 5 p.m.  with kids taking the first shot at a competition cook-off. Live music begins at 6 p.m. with Danny Morris and the Bluegrass Trio kicking things off. The Hands of Time will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by 61 Seconds at 8 p.m.

On Saturday morning, the Colors of Fall Car Show kicks off at 8 a.m. on the Square in Woodbury with vehicle registration that ends at noon. Judging begins at 9 a,m,

 All makes, models, cars, truck and unique vehicles are welcome for the 15th annual show.

Trophies will be awarded to the "Best of," plus Top 40 and seven cash awards.

Dash plaques will go to the first 100 entries.

Vehicle registration begins at 8 a.m. and continues until noon. All cars that register by noon will be judged. There is a $20 entry fee per vehicle. All judging decisions are final.

Zac Barker will perform DJ duties playing all those "golden oldies."

There will be 50/50 drawing, door prizes and trivia contests and don't forget the vendors.

Afraid of the heat, you can bring your own pop-up shade covers.

While the car show is underway, the barbecue cook-off should hit full speed back at the Fairgrounds. In other words, the professional and backyard cookers will have their game faces on with their smokers doing the talking.

On Saturday morning, vendors will offer breakfast with concession stands ready for lunch and supper as well with barbeque, Strawberry Shortcakes, burgers, ham sandwiches and more. John House will feature his "Dog House," loaded with hot dogs and brats.

With vendors and crafters on display, live music starts at 10 a.m. The Gilley Brothers will perform at 2 p.m. followed by Keith Daniels and the "Tennessee Union Band."

Cooking honors will be awarded at 4 p.m.
