Cannon teens talk tobacco use

Cannon County High School teens are working together to make a difference in preventing tobacco use in the community.

T4: Tennessee Teens Talk Tobacco is a group of Cannon County High School students specifically trained to teach others about the negative effects of tobacco use.

Sponsorship of the program comes directly from Tobacco Settlement funds from our local Health Department. Several activities have occurred this year including an "Ice Cream Social" event at a Cannon County High School basketball game, a tail-gating event at a football game, and peer tutoring at all elementary schools on the negative effects of tobacco use.

T4 members report that their goal is to reach students before they decide to start the habit by using a variety of methods to help students see the negative short term and long term use of tobacco products.

"It has to start somewhere," said Sarah Hood a Cannon County senior, "and we decided that if we go to where it's first beginning, that we can stop tobacco use before it starts."

T4 members who participated in the training are: Shianne Ashford, CK Burnam, Jacob Carlton, Emma Davenport, Chloe Dill, Lindsy Foppe, Sarah Hood Elizabeth House, Leah Hyatt and Landon Parton.
