Cannon County Hoop Teams Pounce On Pioneers



MC MINNVILLE — Cannon County's girls and boys basketball teams captured a pair of wins over Warren County Tuesday night be relatively large margins.

In girls action, the Lionettes notched their sixth victory in as many starts on the season by beating the Lady Pioneers 65-40.

Cannon County raced out to a 21-13 lead after the first period, and extended its edge to 38-24 at the half. The Lionettes led 57-31 entering the final quarter.

LIONETTES' SCORING: Emily Sissom 24 points; Taylor King 8; Lindsey Reed 6; Shelby Jordan 6; Chelsey Payne 6; Lauren Ruehlen 5; Erica Melton 5; Abby Jakes 3; Ashley Campbell 2.

The Lions trailed 16-13 after one quarter, but used a 23-10 second period run to vault ahead 36-26 at the intermission. Cannon County extended its advantage to 54-41 at the end of the third quarter before reeling off 23 points in the final period to win 77-57.

The Lions improved their record to 4-2 with the win.

The Lionettes and Lions will return home this coming Friday for their first district action of the season against York Institute. The girls game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.
