Cannon cookery team goes regional

Cookery Team competed at the Central Region Contest held at the Wilson County Fair on August 21, 2014.

We were proud to be represented by a senior and junior high team. This is a very practical contest and one that will be useful and beneficial for years to come for the individuals that participate. Many of the lifeskills that are needed by the students as they prepare for their future are achieved thru the 4-H projects and activities, such as leadership, responsibility, communications, team work etc.

The Outdoor cookery contest involved teams of 4 members each had a product that they were to prepare and present to judges. Team members decided on whether to cook beef, pork, poultry, and lamb. Each picked a different specie, came up with a cooking recipe, used proper food safety and handling practices, started their charcoal fires, and had a 2 hour window to prepare their entry. When turned in to the official judges members had to tell what doneness the beef, lamb, and pork were cooked to.

After competing against teams across middle Tennessee, Cannon County is proud to have the Junior High Team place 3rd overall and the Senior High Team to place 2nd overall. The Senior High team also placed 1st on their "Farm to Table" theme and display. The Senior High team will represent Cannon County at the State Contest at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on October 18th.
