<p><br />***<br />Prenatal Workshops<br />Cannon County Health Department<br />The Cannon County Health Department will hold a series of prenatal workshops beginning May 25 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Prenatal workshops are a great way for expectant parents, grandparents and other family members to learn about and prepare for a healthy pregnancy and baby. The goal of these workshops is to provide participants with information to minimize fears and make informed decisions while pregnant and when the bady arrives.</p>

<p>Summer Youth Conservatory<br />2016 Junior Sessions: June 20-July 1 <br />2016 Senior Session: July 11-22<br />Summer Youth Conservatory is dedicated to the development of life skills through participation in the arts - helping kids reach a new stage at the Arts Center of Cannon County. In addition to classes, this program offers the opportunity for all participants to appear on stage in a production at the end of each session. This is also a valuable opportunity to be seen on stage by Arts Center directors. Students will audition for various roles in performances, but every student will be featured. <p>***<br />Summer Reading continues at the library in June.<br />Thursday, June 23, the Summer Reading Program brings back a favorite: Mr. Bond the Science Guy. This year Mr. Bond is bringing the Science of Sports to the library with hand-eye coordination experiments, Bernoulli's principle, balancing miracles and much more. Mr. Bond always puts the fun into summer and into science. He and his amazing team of Mad Scientists will show you how science and sports work together in his amazing experiments. The first 75 kids to sign up will enjoy a special treat--the bouncy balls. Come to Adams Memorial Library at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, for a fun filled afternoon with Mr. Bond. <br />Thursday, June 30, the library has Dave Mitchell, an extraordinary ventriloquist and magician, coming to lead our Summer Reading Program event. You've never seen anything like this program which includes comedy, magic, ventriloquism, clowning, storytelling, and puppetry. Dave has something for everyone. He's like Tennessee weather--if you don't like what he's doing now, just wait a minute and he'll be doing something you enjoy. Don't miss this new program at the library on June 30, at 1 p.m.<br />Story Time is back for the summer at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. By popular demand, story time continues during the summer at Adams Memorial Library. <p>***<br />A Season in the Southwest &amp; other New Work<br />By artist Meg Garrett<br />June 1 - July 20<br />This is Garrett's second solo show at the Art Center's Berger Gallery. While her first show focused on Tennessee landscape images in pastoral shades, her newest work draws on a recent visit to New Mexico and Arizona. Having gone there to see the landscape and the work of other artists who captured that environment on canvas, to be inspired and instructed by those preceding arts, Garrett "saw and felt the Southwest more intensely" than on prior visits - seeing now with her educated art eye. The images range from painted portraits of the landscape to pencil drawn portraits of people. Garrett's work displays an intimacy with place and person. <br /> The Arts Center is located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, just west of the Woodbury. The Berger Gallery is free and open to the public. <p>***<br />Central Region 4-H Design Camp<br />On July 12-14, Cookeville's Tennessee Tech University will be hosting this year's Central Region 4-H Design Camp. It will be opened to all youth currently, in grades 6th thru 8th. Due to restrictions, registration is limited to the first 80 participants. The children that want to attend will be accepted on a first-come bases. <br />This year the campers will rotate through classes, participate in a sewing lab, and sharpen their consumer skills. Campers will learn to sew their own design (with supervised help) and be involved on a Serve and Learn Project called "It's My Very Own". This involves making a quilt top which will be donated to the children of our society.
