MADISONVILLE - No. 2-ranked Cannon County is headed back to the TSSAA Class AA Girls State Tournament. The Lionettes went on the road and disposed of Sequoyah, 55-42, to earn their 12th state tournament appearance.
Madison Walkup scored 17 points, Abbey Sissom tallied 15 and Rebekah Faulkner scored 14 to lead the Lionettes (33-4). Cannon County will be making its third state tournament appearance in four years.
The Lionettes went on the road and won Substate games to reach the 2013 and 14 state tournaments.
Cannon County jumped out to an 11-3 lead and never trailed after the early moments of the game. The Lady Chiefs trailed 26-23 at halftime; however, Cannon County used a 15-8 run in the third quarter to take complete control. Faulkner scored eight of her 14 in the pivotal third quarter.
