Board OKs walking track project

Cannon County Board of Education members unanimously approved a plan to build a walking track at West Side School.

The project must now go through the bidding process with plans to build a paved trail. The costs will be covered by donations and West Side PTO.
Similarly, the board approved a request by Angela Cossey to erect a new, illuminated sign at Woodland School. The school will cover the cost.

Board members also approved bids for two new buses. Transportation Supervisor Lisa Black said the first bus was for special education students and includes a wheelchair lift. The bid was awarded to Mid-State Bus Co. for $78,000.

The second bid was awarded to Central State Bus Co. for $86,299 and calls for a 72-seat Blue Bird Transit bus.

Board members did reject a request from parent Derek Vance to allow his son to attend kindergarten a year earlier that board policy allows.
