Betty JoAnn Young Merritt, age 53, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at her home following an extended illness.

A wife, mother and Nana, she made her home in Readyville and was a native of Clay County, Kentucky.

Survivors include her mother, Sylvia Massey Young of Manchester, Kentucky; her husband of 28 years, Gary Merritt of Readyville; a son, Jason (Kesha) Merrett of Murfreesboro; two daughters, Ashley (Josh) Henderson of Woodbury and Kelly (Justin) Nichols of Woodbury.; four grandchildren, Alex, Amber and Autumn Merritt and Carson Henderson; siblings, Larry Young of Manchester, Kentucky, Gary Young of LaVergne, Johnny Young of Manchester, Kentucky and Sandy Redferrin of Portland.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Young, and a brother, Wayne Young.

Funeral services will be in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009, with Bro. Danny Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009.
