Ben Leming Announces Candidacy For 6th Congressional District
Marine Captain Ben Leming, a veteran of the Iraq War, is running for Congress because he believes that America needs leaders in Washington that will put the mission first. “The Marine Corps teaches you to put the mission first in everything you do. In Washington I will push politics aside and put the mission first to get things done for Middle Tennessee,” said Leming.

Leming says he’s tired of what he calls “the politics of fear.”  “We need to reject the politics of fear that divide us and instead embrace the politics of courage. We’re all Americans and we’re all in this together. While we may run as Republicans or Democrats, we must lead as Americans,” said Leming. “I’m not a politican and I’ve never served in elected office. I’m a leader and that’s what I will be in Congress.”

Ben Leming grew up in Murfreesboro and graduated from Oakland High School where he excelled in wrestling and track and field. Leming joined the Marines at seventeen. Congressman Bart Gordon later appointed Leming to the United States Naval Academy where he earned his undergraduate degree and commission in the Marine Corps. Leming met his wife Sarah, also a Marine, while at the Naval Academy.

Leming flew CH-60 helicopters in combat during a deployment to Iraq. He later transferred to military intelligence and deployed a second time throughout the greater Middle East. “I’ve studied our enemies, I’ve fought our enemies, and I have helped defeat our enemies in combat. I know their methods and motives. I know them to be cowards and thugs and we will bring them to justice,” said Leming.

Leming’s last assignment in the Marines was as a leadership instructor at the Naval Academy. He received a graduate degree in leadership at the University of Maryland prior to that assignment. Leming left active duty on May 1st and immediately began campaigning. “Somebody has to fight for the people of Middle Tennessee. I will fight to make sure we have good representation,” said Leming. Leming began a 20-hour tour of all 15 counties in the 6th District at 12:01am May 1st, the earliest moment he could begin campaigning.

Ben Leming is a Democrat running for the seat being vacated by retiring Congressman Bart Gordon. The Primary Election is August 5th and early voting begins July 16th. Voters can learn more about Leming at www.benleming.com.
