Banks Compete To Collect For Food Bank
Friday, September 30, 2011 3:00 am
The banks will be collecting food from October 1 to October 31. The food will be weighed and which ever bank has the largest poundage will be the winner. The winning bank employees will win a pizza luncheon sponsored by SAVE Domestic Violence Agency and The Lions Pizza Den.
As all other non-profits, the Cannon County Food Bank has suffered extreme financial difficulties as of late, making it hard to keep the shelves stocked. With the poor economy and unemployment rate so high, the food bank has been extremely busy. There are a lot of hungry and needy families in our county. The Food Bank needs all the help it can get to assist them.
SAVE Director Lisa Baird contacted our local banks to pitch the idea of a food drive competition. First Bank and First National were both eager to help.
First National Bank President Tim Spry stated that, "The real winners of the competition are the citizens of Cannon County who utilize the food bank and we are grateful to get to help."
First Bank President Mindy Gunter stated this was, "A wonderful opportunity to give back to the county and its citizens and we are very happy to participate."
So, don't forget to bring in your non-perishable food items between October 1 through October to First Bank or First National Bank. Let the competition begin!
