What had been scheduled for days in February had to be postponed due to - guess what - snow! So beginning Thursday, March 3rd, at 4:30 p.m. in the Roger Turney Gym when the Westside ladies got up against the ladies from Short Mt. This is followed by the first boys' game at 5:45 when the Knights meet the Woodbury Cubs. Now it's time for another girls' game and this one is between the Lady Cubs and the Eastside Tigers. So come on out and witness next year's county grammar school basketball players. Come back Friday at the same place, same time for more and finish up Saturday with the Consolation which begins at 11:00 a.m. and Championship games. Oh and don't forget the good hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and such. Always good times and good food at this event.

Sympathy is extended to Ann Bryson and Rita Davis on the loss of their uncle, Howard George.

Also Ed Close passed away last week. Some of you may remember his wife who is my cousin, Jean Davenport Close. They spent their married life of 65 years in Mt Juliet.

It's double congratulations for Joe and Velma Turner who became great grandparents twice over on almost the same day. It was Carson Tuberville who came first on the 20th. He weighed in at 6 lbs, 15 oz and was 20" in length. He lives in Alexandria with parents Emily and Andy and sisters, Kyleigh and Jordyn.

The next day the Turners welcomed Preston Caldwell Vaugh. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 oz and was 21.5" in length. Preston lives in Johnson City with parents Lauren and Jason.

Lisa Reed has been out again. This time it was a trip to Arizona. Her pictures look like she had a great time.

Auburn Baptist Church held their annual Candlelight Service Sunday the 21st.

Lori Reed would like for you to take part in the following:

On behalf of the children in the Reading Is FUNdamental (RIF) program at Woodbury Head Start, we would be honored if you could join us during our reading challenge on February 29-March 11. Having you with us for this special opportunity would reinforce to our students the value our community places on literacy. If you have the time in your schedule please consider reading to the children. We promise you'll enjoy making a difference in young lives! To schedule a date, please call Lori Reed at (615)563-5852.

Birthday greetings this week go out to Danielle Howell Smith on the 2nd. Bob Whitaker's is the 3rd. Megan Davis, Pat Bryson and Joyce Dutton share the 4th. It's Katherine Willard's, Ladye Allen's and Josh Osborne's day on the 6th. Dwight Saddler adds a year on the 7th and so does Mary Beth Patterson when she hits 14. Finishing up on the 8th is Marsha Kraft, Tommy Joyce and Betty Jane Barrett. Happy birthday you all.

Poor Ruth Davenport! On March 7th she will have spent 63 years trying to straighten out Marvin. Wishing her many more years of fruitless but happy years.
