Aug. 17: Cannon Arts Dance Registration

Cannon Arts Dance studio announces its 2012-2013 season, full of exciting new classes as well as old favorites. Cannon Dance is proud to welcome three local favorites to the staff: Ms. Elfie Powell, who taught for ten years at Ms. Paula’s Dance studio in McMinnville, Michael McGee, a popular instructor/actor at the Arts Center of Cannon County , and  Autumn Chatwood, known for her Beta/Cheer choreography at Cannon County High School.

As head of the ballet department, Elfie Powell will offer instruction focusing on proper ballet technique,   and body alignment. Ms. Elfie will teach a new pointe preparation class for intermediate dancers to strengthen their feet and core in order to realize their potential.

“Having a pre-pointe class is a wonderful opportunity to move our serious ballet dancers forward”, notes Ms. California, studio owner. In addition to ballet I and II, Elfie will be teaching a baby ballerina class including movement and tumbling and a preteen hip hop class.

Michael McGee has not only captivated audiences on many stages in Middle Tennessee, but he has been an inspiring instructor for area youth conservatories. Michael brings vocal performance back to the studio, where he hopes to build a show choir. His class will focus on singing, vocal technique, musical theater, and audition strategies. Michael is a unique talent with a wonderful singing voice, as well as a passion for teaching young people.

Autumn Chatwood, an  alumni of the studio, will offer her exciting brand of hip hop to older teens and young adults.

In addition to our new instructors, studio favorites Kathryn Turney and Brad McCrary will be returning, contributing their innovative choreography, along with Ms. California, to this year’s glamorous recital theme: A Night at the Oscars!

Fall registration will be held from 4-6 PM, on August 16 and 17th at the studio, 119 W. Main St, Woodbury, TN, just off the square. Instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, clogging, voice/vocal production and ballroom will be available for ages 3.5 to adult. Staff will be available to assist with class placement, and answer questions. Classes begin August 20.
