Aug. 11: 2012 George Reunion



The 2012 George Reunion will be held Saturday, August 11, in the Gassaway Community Center and Fire Hall located at 245 Gassaway Main Street, in the Gassaway Community in Northeastern Cannon County. The doors will open at 11:00 AM with lunch beginning at 12:30 PM.

The children of Sammie and Jennie (Tate) George:  Nina Campbell, Inez Bogle, Ernestine Tate, Grady George, Howard George, Betty Ledna, and Frelan George, along with their children invite all descendants of Charles and Bastoria (Hughes) George, or their son Samuel L. and Sarah (Jennings) George, or their children Sammie (Jennie), Jordan S., Rufus L., Jacob Eli “Jake”, John W., Sylvanus, Cornelous, Marcelious, and Malissie George to attend this reunion.

With the conclusion of the Civil War in 1865, Samuel L. George and his parents, Charles and Bastoria (Hughes) George, acquired land and built their homes on Turkey Branch in the Gassaway Community. Samuel married Sara Jennings, together, they raised their 10 children on Turkey Branch. Each year their descendants meet on the second Saturday in August at the Gassaway Community Center and Fire Hall.

Everyone is invited to bring your favorite cuisine and enjoy lunch, share photos, precious memories, family history and maybe a few tall tales.
