Auburntown News

Last week's column told you about school buses being in operation. This week another way to tell that school is back in session is FUNDRAISERS! And it has begun at Auburn Grammar. Smart cards are on sale but the best fundraisers are the meals. The first one is tomorrow (Wednesday the 19th) at the Community Center beginning at 3:00 p.m. and going thru 7:00 p.m. or until the food runs out.

Chef Tim Reed is frying up fish and chicken strips complete with fries, beans and slaw topped off with mostly homemade desserts. Drinks are included. Cost is $8.00 for adults. Children, ages 5-10, get a plate for $5.00 and those 4 and under can eat for free. So don't worry about cooking or cleaning up the kitchen. Come by and enjoy a meal or take it home. All proceeds go to the school.

Thursday night prior to school registration Friday was a successful back-to-school bash for students and parents or anyone who wished to come and enjoy a hot dog and the trimmings. It was also a good time for games complete with a fun-time photo booth. School staff was on hand to meet and greet both old and new students.

There's a saying that goes "if you live in a small community, everyone knows your business but you!" Well that may be true but if you are living alone it's great to know someone is looking out for you. Could be even to the point of "breaking and entering" to make sure you're okay. It's sad to think what might have been around here for the past year or so if no one had checked on those who live alone.

The George family reunion was held Saturday the 1st at the Gassaway Fire Hall. It was good to see Ernestine Tate having a good time there. Several George relatives from this side of the hill were also there.

Our sympathy to Judy Medlin Corvin on the recent death of her father, Gilbert Medlin and her uncle, Ted Medlin, both of Missouri. Her mom, Andella, came home with Judy to spend several days.

Glad to hear Roy Nelson Pugh is home and doing well following triple bypass surgery recently at Vanderbilt.
Lisa Reed has been on the move again. She was in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena Wednesday night with Kim Williams. The big event was the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam.

Debbie Cheatham has also been away a few days. She and daughter, Sara Beth Sandes loved a good time in San Diego, CA.
It was birthday time Sunday at our house. Celebrating with all of the family here was Sam Morrison. His dessert? Chocolate chip cookies!! How easy is that.
The Auburntown Historical Society is meeting Thursday the 20th at the Auburntown Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Time is 7:00 p.m.

Scarlett Griffith, the secretary for Warren County Genealogy Association and a D.A.R. member, is speaking on Christopher Cooper who was a pioneer in the Sanders Fork Creek area and a revolutionary war soldier.

Guess what, it's time for birthday wishes. Aaron Vantrease is the first one when he celebrates tomorrow the 19th (come celebrate your birthday at the fish and chicken fry, Aaron!!) April Melton has hers the 20th (you can celebrate a day early!) Dustin Gibson turns 20 on the 21st. "Big" Johnny Kennedy winds up the wishes when he turns 42 on the 25th. Happy birthday to all of you.

Happy 55 years of togetherness to a special couple to me and that is my brother, Richard and wife, Barbara Harris. The 20th Larry and Dianne McAllister celebrate another year of marriage. It was 45 years ago on the 22nd when John and Betty King were wed. One more couple celebrating this week is Ricky and Betty Jane Barrett (bless your heart Betty Jane!) Happy anniversary to all of you.
