Tuesday, March 10, 2015 1:05 pm By ANNA PATRICK The graduating class of 1959 of Auburn High School has lost a member of their class. JoAnn Hughes Nichols passed away Saturday the 28th. Our condolences to her family. A brother, J.C. Hughes, resides in this community. Following a lengthy illness, Mattie Drue Nichols went to home to heaven the first day of March. She lived her life in Auburntown until her health warranted moving to Lebanon to be near her daughter,. Our sympathy to daughter, Judith Vanhook, and sons, Eddie and Danny Nichols and families. Tuesday, February 24th, the 4-H Regional Public Speaking was held at the fairgrounds in Lebanon. There were 10 counties represented with an average of 20 participants per grade. This is the highest level for 4th-8th grades. Sharon Bessant, a 6th grader at Auburn Grammar placed 4th. Fifth grader, Kiley Hughes, placed 2nd. Kiley's 4-H poster also made it to the regionals. We congratulate them and thank them for representing their school, county and 4-H as well. It was a birthday celebration for Kelly Brandon who was honored for her 9th Saturday the 28th. Enjoying the Barbie Party were Bridgett Dodd, Cody Brandon, David and Brenda Dodd, Doug Brandon, John and Britany Dodd, Leighanne, Caitlin and Jon Matthew. Marshall Smithson, Magaline Davenport, David and Pam Gaither, Regina and Rilley Mayo, Shirley Young, Tiffany Dodd, Kallie and Kelsie Burnett, Kirk Jones, Cindy and Dixe Garrison, Jennifer Brown, Carly and Ben, Wendy Eidson, Hunter and Morgan, Allen and Anna Leach, Jennifer, Cabel, Joshua and Joanna Powers and Brandon Watson. There was a surprised visit from Kelly's teacher, Leslie Pursell. Congratulations to the Lions and Lionettes. Both teams are Regional Basketball champs with the Lionettes moving on to the state tournament. The Lions fought hard in the sub state but came up a few points short. It has been a great year for both teams.
Competition continues Thursday night with the Consolation and Championship games being played Saturday the 21st. And don't forget the "extra" enjoyment of seeing "Miss" Cheryl's Cheerleading girls (4th graders) perform a routine during half time of the Lady Knights and Lady Tigers game. Another reminder - the concession food is outstanding so come prepared to eat supper The second date is Thursday, March 26th when the Auburn Historical Society meets at the Auburn Church of Christ fellowship hall. Hope you "sprung forward" and made it to church on time!
