Auburntown Lions Club Plans Easter Egg Hunt April 2

An Easter egg hunt is planned at 11:00 a.m. on April 2, 2011 at the C. S. Hawkins Park in Auburntown, Tennessee.

The Auburntown Lions Club sponsors the Hunt on the same day as their All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry at the Auburntown Community Center, which has been held on the First Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. many years.

The Easter Egg Hunt is being held in conjunction with the Auburntown Church of Christ, Auburn Baptist Church, and Prosperity Baptist Church.

In addition to these fine churches, local businesses are also providing sponsorships.

There are three age categories for the hunt being Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten; 1st through 4th grades; and 5th through 8th grades. There will be over 1500 eggs filled with candy and toys to be found.  In addition there will be 6 golden prize eggs for each age group to find. All the kids that participate in the hunt will be given a free ticket to eat at the Fish Fry.

Roger Turney, a retired educator and President of the Auburntown Lions Club, has spent most of his adult life around children as a teacher and who and recently retired as the principle of the Auburn Elementary School, wanted to bring back the Easter Egg Hunt to thank the local children and show how much they have meant to his life and that of his wife, Shirley, who is also a retired teacher.

After the hunt is over everyone is invited to Lions Club for the fish fry.  The money that is raised at the fish fry will help the Auburntown Lions Club to continue its charitable purposes.

We use the money to help fund Lions Club International projects such as White Cane and also contribute to the Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

We also collect and distribute used eyeglasses to be refurbished for new owners.  For the past several years we also work in conjunction with the Woodbury Lions Club to help screen children’s eyes.

The Lions Clubs in Cannon County screen all the Elementary Schools in Cannon County.  We also provide support for the citizens in the Auburntown area included in Cannon County, Wilson County, and DeKalb County that need help paying utility bills and medical expenses.

The Auburntown Lions Club is excited about this new project and hopes to see you at the Easter Egg Hunt on April 2.
