Auburntown Council meets

The Auburntown City Council met Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 6:00 PM for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor Roger Turney and the following Alderpersons were present: Rita Davis, Janice Fletcher, Tina Fletcher and Winfred Gaither. The following Alderperson was absent: Frank Patrick.

The minutes of the previous month of June, 2014 was passed out by the City Recorder for review and approval. Following a short for review the minutes were approved as presented.

The financial report ending June 30, 2014 was presented and discussed. Following a brief discussion the report was approved as presented. The balance of funds on the above date was $66,535.26.

The Mayor reported that the DeKalb Utility District (DUD) was nearing the process of entering into a contract for the construction of their own water treatment plant. When the plant is completed and in operation, DUD will no longer be beholding to any entity for their supply of water. The City's residents are now supplied water by DUD through the purchase of water from another supplier.

Red Apple Days, August 1 & 2, 2014, were discussed at length. All plans are in place for a exciting and festive community celebration this year.

The Mayor called to the attention of those present the Annual Cannon Community Fireworks Celebration which will be held in Dillon Park the evening of July 3rd this year. The city of Auburntown financially supports this activity along with the City of Woodbury and Cannon County. There is no entrance fee and all the food and activities are free.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 PM.
