Auburntown Council Approves Funding For Fireworks Show



The Auburntown City Council met Tuesday, May 04, 2010, at 6:00 PM for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor Roger Turney and Councilpersons; Rita Davis, Winfred Gaither. Jo Davenport and Tina Fletcher were present for this meeting.

The previous minutes of April 6, 2010, was approved as presented by the City Recorder.

The Financial report was approved as presented by the City Treasurer. The balance of funds on deposit was $45,816.35.

Dale Peterson spoke to the Council regarding a group effort consisting of the Cities of Woodbury and Auburntown, and Cannon County pooling efforts to have a “4th of July” fireworks display. Plans are to have the display Friday night, July 2nd in Dillon Park.

The cost to be shared proportionally using a professional company who specializes in firework displays. Following a period of question and answers the Council voted to participate in this joint venture. Watch the news media for more details as the time grows closer.

The Council approved the shared expenditure to provide funds for the updating and printing of Cannon County maps.

Tina Fletcher gave and update on plans for Red Apple Day. The date for contestants to apply for the “Red Apple Day Queen Contest” has been pushed forward one month to May 31st. The Mayor asked the Council be began reviewing the budget process as he plans to present a proposed City budget for FY 1010-11 next month.
