Auburntown City Council meeting held

The Auburntown City Council met Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 6:00 PM for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor, Roger
Turney and the following aldermen were present: Janice Fletcher, Tina Fletcher, Denise Crowell and Winfred Gaither. The
following aldermen were absent: Frank Patrick and Rita Davis.

The minutes of the previous month of February were approved as presented by the City Recorder. The financial report was given by a four-page handout of all receipts and expenditures for the month of January. Following a brief discussion of the slow increase in our monthly assets, the report was approved as presented.

The Mayor discussed the law recently passed requiring all cities (No matter how small) to have a position of a Certified
Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO). He is in the process of becoming certified for the position by taking specific classes
given by the State in Nashville Tennessee. Once certified, the individual must comply annually by enrolling in the 24 hour
continuing education requirement.

The sudden increase of a substantial raise in the water bills of the City's residents was discussed. This increase was made grudgingly by DeKalb Utility District (DUD) in passing on to its customers the sudden price hike by its supplier, the City of Smithville. Litigation is in progress to remand the undue hike be rolled back to the area of normalcy.

However, DUD is in the process of building its own water treatment plant to get out from under the hand of their present
supplier. When that happens DUD will be totally independent and will not have to rely on others for their source of supply. The Mayor said he would be glad to talk to anyone about their concerns regarding the present water situation.
The condition of our city streets regarding pot holes and roughness was discussed. At the present time the only relief seen, when weather permits, patch the potholes and others with asphalt mix Our street repair fund is almost depleted.
The session ended at 7:00 PM.
