The Auburntown City Council met on March 1, 2016, with the following members of the City Council present: Rita Davis, Tina Fletcher, Denise Crowell, Chris Blackburn, Janice Fletcher, and Mayor Roger Turney. The meeting was called to order, and the February Minutes and Financial Report were read and approved. Mr. Turney had reported last month that all large expenses for the City had been paid; however, he later realized that the property insurance for the Community Center buildings and Fire Hall had in fact not been paid. That premium of $4,210.00 has now been paid, and it was noted that we are still building a balance in the City Account.
Todd Hollandsworth has asked to rent a vacant room in the City Hall building for $40 per month. He will use this room for storage of his food service equipment. He also would like to install telephone and Internet connections in this room. A motion passed to allow Todd to rent this room and install telephone and Internet connections.
Ed Schultz is planning to install a camera security system on his business building and has offered to allow the City to "piggyback" on his system for security purposes. This can be done at no charge to the City after Todd secures an Internet connection.
Mr. Turney proposed that the City purchase enough new LED replacement light bulbs for one-half of our City Christmas lights at a cost of approximately $750-$800. These LED bulbs are rated to last 60,000 hours plus. They are plastic and emit little heat. Motion passed to allow this purchase.
There is still no further word on the activation of the ATT tower.
Mr. Turney reminded the Council members that this is an election year. We will all need to complete qualifying paperwork which requires the signatures of at least 25 registered voters who live within the city limits of Auburntown.
