Regan Vaughn's team did not get the win but the first-year Auburn boys coach had to appreciate the competitive fervor displayed in a nip-and-tuck 33-30 setback against Woodland Thursday (Nov. 11).

Auburn pushed Woodland to limit in what developed into the best game of the early season before succombing to the undefeated Warriors. Garrett McReynolds was a one-man wrecking crew for Auburn, narrowly missing a triple double. McReynolds finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine stills.

Auburn (5-2) suffered a blow when Reagen Scott injured his ankle in the second quarter. Woodland led 9-7 after a first quarter that provided a glimpse of the exciting game that would unfold. The Knights stormed back in the second half and led 17-14 at the half.

Woodland carried a a 25-21 lead into the final quarter and Auburn was never able to get over the hump.

"I'm proud of our team," Vaughn said. "We have had a good start and the boys are improving with every practice and game. We put together a strong effort against a solid Woodland team but it wasn't enough this time."
