I know there is no real answer to this except "stupidity", but WHY?

Is there any idea of the motivation behind setting the church on fire?

I hope if proven guilty that he gets the maximum sentence allowed by the law with no deal cut to reduce the sentence.

I can't imagine "why" anyone would do this. He deserves the worst.
