Appreciation dinner set for first responders

The events of September 11, 2001 call our attention to the importance of our First Responders who on a daily basis respond to our emergency needs. These brave men and women put their lives on the line for us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week everyday of the year. Many of our first responders in Cannon County are volunteers. Those that are paid are often underpaid, the volunteers receive no compensation usually pay their own expenses and all too often, receive little appreciation.

On Nov. 14, Rep. Mark Pody is planning a dinner to honor all fire fighters,  rescue squad members, law enforcement, ambulance personnel, and 911 dispatchers. The event will be at the Cannon County Community Center, 630 Lehman Street, Woodbury scheduled from 6pm to 9pm..

Dignitaries committed to being present at the dinner to honor Cannon’s finest include keynote speaker Tre Hargett, Tennessee Secretary of State and Donnie Smith, Executive Administrative Officer for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

In addition to the complimentary dinner for the first responder and their guest each first responder will be presented a certificate of appreciation, photo opportunities and special awards for outstanding individuals.

Representative Pody is looking for HERO stories from Cannon County residents. They do not have to be a made for TV story, just stories about how one of Cannon County’s finest impacted a citizen's life in a time of need, distress, an emergency or maybe even just displayed kindness. If you have a story to tell about one of Cannon County’s first responders please contact Representative Pody’s office by calling 615-741-7086 or emailing his assistant Debbie Stephens at Debbie.Stephens@capitol.tn.gov.
