American Red Cross announces Heroes Breakfast on Feb. 21

MURFREESBORO -- Business and community leaders will come together to honor Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and President Sidney A. McPhee at the annual American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 7:30 a.m. at the MTSU Student Union, 1768 MTSU Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

McPhee, MTSU's tenth president, has presided over one of the most remarkable periods of growth and progress in the institution's century-plus of service. MTSU has been recognized nationally for their Quest for Student Success, its priority to help students persist and graduate. MTSU is home to the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center, the largest support facility of its kind in Tennessee.

McPhee's presidency, which began in 2001, has coincided with more than $800 million in improvements in academic, athletic and campus facilities - either proposed, under construction or completed. Among those projects was MTSU's $147-million Science Building, a 250,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art teaching and research facility, which opened in Fall 2014.

This event allows the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross the opportunity to share our mission with the community, while honoring an individual that has experienced this work firsthand.

"We are pleased to recognize the extraordinary partnership between Red Cross and Middle Tennessee State University as a result of Dr. McPhee's leadership. Dr. McPhee will serve as our honoree and our keynote speaker, sharing his personal experience living our Mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies," said Kathy Ferrell, executive director of the American Red Cross, Heart of Tennessee Chapter.
