American Legion Sends Trio To Boys State
The Hilton Stone American Legion Post 279, Woodbury is proud to be part of this great program for our youth and our leaders of tomorrow. Post 279 since being chartered two years ago has increased the quotas each year to Boys State from one to three with the help of local civic organizations and businesses.

Three outstanding young men from Cannon County High School are at Boys State 2012, May 20 - 26, at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

These young men will learn all about leadership and Tennessee Government. They will be part of an actual court case before the Tennessee State Supreme Court. They will be elected to various positions in city, county, and state government.

The boy elected to be Governor will receive a full scholarship to Tennessee Tech University. Other winners will receive scholarships in the amount of 1,2,and 3 thousand dollars.

They will graduate on Saturday.

Post 279 thanks Cannon County High School; and our sponsors this year for providing the funds to sponsor a boy to Boys State. The sponsors for Boys State 2012 are, Dr. Darryl T. Deason, DDS and Dr. Andrew Bucher, DDS, of Family Dentistry; Tommy and Diana Woodson, of Woodson's Pharmacy; and the Woodbury Lions Club.

In the picture in front of our Courthouse as they prepare to depart for Cookeville are;  From left to right, Bobby Ferrell, Commander American Legion Post 279; Nick Baker; Jarrett Melton; Dalton Bell; Charlie Harrell, Boys State Director American Legion Post 279; and Jim Stone, Executive Board Member, American Legion Post 279.

We hope that our Sponsors this year will join with us again next year so that we can continue to send three boys to Boys State in 2013.

Again, thanks to all of you that supported American Legion Boys State 2012. God bless you.
