Accident claims 1 life on county line

One man was killed and two women seriously injured Tuesday (July 28) in a head-on collision on Short Mountain Road.

Benjamin Liau of Watertown died when he crossed the center line on a straight stretch of Short Mountain Road near the Cannon/Warren County line. Liau, 50, was driving a 1979 Olds Cutlass when he veered on the wrong side of the road striking a 2003 Chevy Malibu driven by Bonita Mangrum, 75, of Warren County.

Investigating officers believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Mangrum was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville

.A passenger in Liau's car, identified as Charlotte Hill, 40, was transported by helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

The accident remains under investigation.
