MURFREESBORO --The 43rd Annual Pioneer Days will be held in Cannonsburgh Village Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music, clogging, pottery and blacksmith demonstrations, hayrides, craft vendors, food trucks and an art exhibit are just a few of the activities planned for the day.

"We're excited to kick off the summer season with this fun event," said Shelia Hodges, facility coordinator at Cannonsburgh Village.

Visitors will have the opportunity to talk with staff and volunteers who will be dressed in period costume. Riverchase Posse will perform a gun-slinging show, and 1800's working Steam Engine will be on site.

"Kids will learn a lot about our past in a fun way," said Hodges. "Our staff and volunteers love to talk about pioneer life."

Over 65 craft vendors are scheduled to show and sell their wares, and refreshments will be available for purchase from food trucks, including Big G Express, The Dawg Bar, Honky Tonk Café and Get Poppin.

In addition to the heritage activities, Rutherford Parent magazine will be on hand with additional activities, including bounce houses, a mini train ride and other attractions. Free bike helmets donated by local attorney John Day will be given to the first 500 children in attendance.

The Murfreesboro Lions Club will also have their annual great Pancake Breakfast that morning from 7 a.m. -11 a.m. in the clubhouse with a donation of $9 for adults and $5 for children 6-12. Children under the age of 6 eat free at the breakfast. All funds are used to buy glasses for needed elementary school age children in our community.

Coinciding with the Earth Day celebration on the Murfreesboro Square, attendees are encouraged to park and walk to the events via the Murfreesboro Greenway which passes under Broad Street.

Cannonsburgh represents approximately 100 years of early Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s and is owned by the City of Murfreesboro and managed by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. The organizations involved in Cannonsburgh are Murfreesboro Art League, Murfreesboro Lions Club, Rutherford County Blacksmith's Association, and Stones River Region Antique Automobile Club of America.
