Noon today was the deadline to qualify to run in the November elections in Woodbury and Auburntown.

Eight candidates qualified in Woodbury, and four in Auburntown. 

Both Woodbury Mayor Harold Patrick and Auburntown Mayor Roger Turney qualified to seek re-election.

They will both be unopposed in their respective efforts in remain in their positions.

Auburntown had only three candidates qualify to run for councilman. There are five seats on the city council. Seeking re-election are Tina Fletcher, Rita Davis and Winfred Gaither. Beth Hancock and Frank Patrick are not seeking re-election.

The race for the Woodbury Board of Aldermen’s six seats features seven candidates.

Chuck Holt is seeking a position on the Board, while Lois Larimer, Joann Davis, Faye Northcutt Knox, Dotty Duggin and Charlie Harrell are bidding to retain their seats. Adam Melton, who was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of Clayton Cason earlier this year, is also running in the at-large election.

The elections for both communities will be held on Nov. 6, coinciding with the 2012 Presidential, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and State House elections.

Depending on what action the Cannon County Commission takes next month, there could also be a referendum on the ballot to raise the local option sales tax.

The last day to register to vote in the November election is Oct. 8. Early voting is slated to start Oct. 17 and run until Nov. 1.
